As I sat with Mark and Cheryl, it became clear to me that one of their greatest challenges was that they could not talk about a problem without it erupting into a knock-down, drag-out fight. One of the best and simplest pieces of advice for couples who struggle to talk is to embrace this mantra….as you’re looking at your spouse, even when you are in the middle of a fight, imagine the phrase “talk to me like you love me” tattooed on their forehead. It’s amazing what happens when you talk gently to the person you love.
